Earlier this month the Banging & Exploration Club (BEC) held their annual AGM and dinner. On any normal year, this would consist largely of substantial boozing, orgies and contracting diseases from their in-house hot tub - however 2022 was different.
On the night after the dinner, at approximately 2 AM, fireworks could be heard from as far away as Weston-Super-Mare and locals all rushed to the hut to enjoy the anticipated spectacle but were met with chaos.
Harry Hole lives nearby spoke with us: "Initially everything seemed normal, people were naked, some of them on fire with smoke everywhere and alarms blazing. But then someone started getting angry and blaming a nearby club".
Initial reports from Mendip suggested that the Strange Man's Caving Club (SMCC) had broken into the BEC hut and detonated a large firework in the common room. Such reports were supported by the actions of the BEC committee in the immediate aftermath, with several SMCC members getting banned from partying there, however something seemed off.
"It just didn't make sense" said Harry. "The BEC wouldn't ban anyone for just playing a prank like that, it's not who they are - and they'd never be out manoeuvred by the SMCC".
Dankness Below decided to dig deeper, and infiltrated a BEC emergency committee meeting held yesterday. We can reveal that the firework drama was all an elaborate plot to make the SMCC pay for a new caving hut - long needed by the BEC.
The matter was forwarded to the local police, who decided no further action was needed and expressed severe aversion towards visiting the Belfry.
When asked for comment on these revelations and the police decision, a drunk BEC committee member simply threw up on us.
